KPV is the C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone — residues 11 to 13, lysine-proline-valine. Its interest to researchers comes from a specific structural observation: the tripeptide retains a portion of α-MSH’s activity in inflammation models while lacking the melanocortin-receptor pigmentation activity of the full 13-residue hormone. That dissociation — keeping one property while dropping another — is why the fragment was pursued rather than the parent.
Characterised in murine and keratinocyte models as a melanocortin-derived tripeptide with described activity on NF-κB signalling. Published work has examined KPV in murine models of inflammatory bowel disease and studied α-MSH, MSH(11–13) KPV and ACTH signalling in human keratinocyte cells in vitro. There is also literature on transport of the tripeptide by PepT1. Animal and cell-culture work throughout. Not FDA-approved for any use.
