Not everything fits a class, and forcing it to would be less honest than saying so. This group holds compounds whose literatures do not overlap with each other: DSIP, a nonapeptide isolated in the 1970s for which no receptor has ever been identified; oxytocin, one of the first peptide hormones ever sequenced and synthesised, work that took a Nobel Prize in 1955; VIP, a 28-amino-acid peptide first isolated from porcine intestine; glutathione, a tripeptide antioxidant present at millimolar concentrations in most cells and unusual for a gamma peptide bond that ordinary peptidases cannot cleave; and FOX-04-DRI, a designed cell-penetrating construct.
