5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide — it is a small molecule, a quinolinium compound, and it is in this catalog because of its enzyme target rather than its chemistry. It was developed as a cell-permeable inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to nicotinamide. NNMT sits at an interesting junction: it consumes both a methyl donor and a NAD+ precursor, which connects it to two separate areas of metabolic research.
Characterised as a small-molecule NNMT inhibitor. The enzyme is the subject of substantial current research: a 2025 Nature paper examined NNMT inhibition in cancer-associated fibroblasts with respect to antitumour immunity, and a 2025 Molecular Cancer paper examined NNMT in EGFR-TKI resistance mechanisms. Note that this literature is about the enzyme target and its biology, largely in cancer models — it is not literature about this specific inhibitor as a product. Cell-culture and animal work. Not FDA-approved for any use.
